I have over 34 years’ experience in the drug development industry and over 23 years as a leader, department head and line manager. I live in Berkshire, UK with my family and enjoy cycling, resistance training, reading, meditation, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and comics!

Operational and process excellence using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

• Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt with International Association of Six Sigma Certification (IASSC)

• IT onboarding project for new starters, saved $900K in 1 year.

• Project Start Up reduced study start up effort and standardised planning.

• Risk Based Monitoring (RBM) / “Xcellerate Monitoring” project. Justified $18M business case and recovered investment in new teams, services and software through new revenue.

Organisational design & implementation.

• Developed vision and strategy for 5 departments (Clinical Data Management, resource management and centralised monitoring at Covance) and Quality, Training and Risk Management and Process, Quality & Learning at AZ) between 2009 - 2022.

• Justified growth of at 15-25% in each organisation to support broader service capabilities.

Project & programme management.

• Began leading projects in 1995 and became Certified Project Manager in 2012.

• Co-designed and led successful advanced Association for Clinical Data Management (ACDM) course in Project Management for over 11 years, training over 150 experienced data managers.

• Led many types of project and program at ClinTrials Research, Kendle, Covance and AstraZeneca, including Data Management “rescue studies”, clinical studies, internal initiatives and process improvement projects.

• Implemented and led governance structures at Kendle, Covance (Xcellerate Monitoring governance) and AstraZeneca (Risk Based Quality Management initiative and Clinical Process Area Committee governance).

Line management, coaching and performance management.

• 23 years as a line manager, leading teams of 5 - 25 people.

• Led departments upto 170 people through 5-6 director level reports (Covance and AZ).

• Independent adjudicator for several disciplinary / formal complaint cases (Covance and AZ).

• Managed poor performing staff through disciplinary / performance management process.
